House Keeping

CELEBRANT: Good afternoon all.

Just before the ceremony starts, I would like to take this opportunity to let you know of a few requests by the Bride and Groom.

The Bride and Groom have requested that this is an unplugged wedding.

What this means is, if you could all please refrain from taking any photos or uploading any photos to social media before the newlyweds have decided to do so.

They have also asked if you would all join them in being part of a group photo at the end of the ceremony over by the lake.

So, before we begin – could I remind all of you, to put your phones to silent or switch them off for the duration of the ceremony. Thank you.

Welcoming & Introduction

CELEBRANT: Please be seated.

To all present, welcome. On behalf of Jett and Roshani, I just want to express their gratitude for all of you coming and sharing this day with them.

We have all gathered here to witness the union of Jett and Roshani in marriage in this beautiful garden in Samford on this day with the most glorious Queensland weather.

Welcome to all the guests that have traveled so far to be here and share in this day.

Family and friendship are two of the most important things in the world—it’s nothing without love and relationship.

With that said, I’m sure we’re all very eager to proceed with the wedding ceremony that will join these families together officially.

CELEBRANT:

My name is Karen Stringfellow. I am a registered Civil Celebrant.

I am duly authorised by law to solemnize marriages according to law.

Before you are joined in marriage in my presence and in the presence of these witnesses,

I am to remind you of the solemn and binding nature of the relationship into which you are now about to enter.

Marriage, according to law in Australia, is the union of two people to the exclusion of all others, Voluntarily entered into for life.

Words of Marriage

CELEBRANT:

Marriage is perhaps the greatest and most challenging adventure of human relationships.  No ceremony can create your marriage; only you can do that—through love and patience;  through dedication and perseverance;  through talking and listening, helping and supporting and believing in each other;  through tenderness and laughter; through learning to forgive,

learning to appreciate your differences, and by learning to make the important things matter,  and to let go of the rest.

What this ceremony can do:  is to witness and affirm the choice you make to stand together as partners for life.

Reading

CELEBRANT:

In the spirit of the importance of strong friendships to a marriage,

Jett and Roshani have asked Roshani’s best friend, Anushri to read a reading about love that especially resonate with them.

ANUSHRI

FRIENDSHIP

It is often said that it is love that makes the world go round.

However, without doubt, it is friendship which keeps our spinning existence on an even keel.  True friendship provides so many of the essentials for a happy life –  it is the foundation on which to build an enduring relationship, it is the mortar which bonds us together in harmony,  and it is the calm, warm protection we sometimes need when the world outside seems cold and chaotic.

True friendship holds a mirror to our foibles and failings, without destroying our sense of worthiness.

True friendship nurtures our hopes, supports us in our disappointments, and encourages us to grow to our best potential.

This couple came together as friends, they pledge to each other not only their love but also the strength, warmth and, most importantly, the fun of true friendship.

CELEBRANT:

Thank you, Anushri.

Ritual

CELEBRANT:

Jett and Roshani have asked me to include an Indian ritual into the ceremony. Roshani wanted to honour her heritage and her family.

She came to Australia as a little girl with her father but returned as an adult to find her mother. This is where she met Jett. India is a special country to them and they wanted to use an Indian ritual to display their commitment to each other and to their marriage.

This ritual is a central ritual in a Hindu wedding. It is seven steps around the sacred fire. This ritual is the equilivent of importance as the ring ceremony that you just witnessed between Jett and Roshani.

We will use the special candle that Roshani and Jett have chosen to light and be the display of their sacred fire.

Sean would you please light our scared fire.

These seven steps will symbolise eternal friendship and the couple’s journey through life together.

Jett will you please reach for Roshani’s right hand.

I will ask you to take seven steps around the sacred fire and both repeat after me the seven vows.

With the first step, we will provide for and support each other.

With the second step, we will develop mental, physical, and spiritual strength.

With the third step, we will share the worldly possessions.

With the fourth step, we will acquire knowledge, happiness, and peace.

With the fifth step, we will raise strong and virtuous children.

With the sixth step, we will enjoy the fruits of all seasons.

With the seventh step, we will always remain friends and cherish each other.

As you have walked the seven steps together, your love and lives have become inseparable.
